After our internship hours spent in PS-7 and MPD, I waited for about 10 minutes waiting for a ride back to España.
I decided to walk South bound, hoping to catch a ride before the other commuters. I was walking, and walking, till I realized I could already see the Pedro Gil station. I gave up and realized I should have wasted my effort North bound, at least bringing me a bit closer to España. So I turned around.
It got dark. I got to U.N. again. I could still see hundreds of commuters waiting for rides, so I decided to keep walking. Then I got to the City Hall, then Lawton. Saw the same thing, decided the same thing.
I told myself I wouldn’t walk on the bridge to Quiapo. But I was very discouraged to wait because of all the people. I saw a woman walking to the bridge, so I followed her. Hoping if I get robbed, I wouldn’t be alone. I tucked and hid my wallet in front of my pants, and hoped for the best.
It started to drizzle. Then I got to Quiapo. And still the same thing. Recto. Morayta. Till I finally reached España.
I felt like fainting. But the walk was bearable, I was just really tired because I was awake and working from 7:30am, straight.
Manila rush hour is terrible.
I just wanted to share this, because I had a bad day. But I saw a lot of people having worse days. So I’m really not complaining about anything.
Luck favors us all, in many very different ways. And we need to realize this, and embrace it the tightest we can.
