Bundle is a revolutionary mobile app designed to help manage parents or soon-to-be parents with their family expansion journeys, and to empower individuals, couples or groups who want to grow their families beyond traditional childbirth. Its core function is to seamlessly manage and monitor parenthood and family planning experiences (including managing their journey with IVF via clinical pod*). It also offer a secure environment that connects and matches prospective parents with a range of medical experts, experienced families, and family expansion methods.

The app is designed for a fictional future where the societal landscape for family planning has rapidly changed. In this storyworld, many individuals, couples, and groups are exploring alternative paths to parenthood due to personal preference, inability to have a child through natural childbirth, or dissatisfaction with natural childbirth.

The idea was inspired by Policy Horizons Canada, wherein they said “State-funded initiatives such as publicly funded in vitro fertilization are offering women new choices regarding family planning in some countries.” This is what sparked the idea that maybe, just maybe, there’s a timeline where babies can grow in artificial pods—and we’ll need an app that can manage that journey for parents.

It is an academic project for the Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI) program at the University of Waterloo Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business. We were tasked to worldbuild, look into a future, and design an app for that future.

The design process was pretty straightforward after the idea was born. I started with a lo-fi prototype, got feedback from peers, and moved to mid-fi.

Features I added include (but are not limited to) the ability to watch your baby in a pod (like watching your CCTV from your phone), connect with a community that you want to match with (similar to dating apps today), track your “bundles” i.e. your parenthood journeys, etc.
