About the Study
“Leveling Up: Exploring Netflix’s Gaming Strategy” outlines a digital marketing plan designed to establish Netflix Games’ presence in the gaming industry.
The presentation covers a situational analysis of Netflix Games, including its product overview, unique selling propositions, pricing considerations, placement strategies, and promotional efforts. It also delves into a customer analysis, focusing on Canadian streaming and gaming audiences and introducing a user persona, Kira Kalluk. This also utilizes the BCG Growth Share Matrix to position Netflix Games as a “Question Mark” with the potential to become a “Star” in the high-growth mobile and cloud gaming market. It is concluded with marketing driven SMART goals for enhancing engagement through targeted email marketing and driving growth by cross-promoting high-profile game offerings.
It is an academic project for the Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI) program at the University of Waterloo Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, owned and designed by a team of graduate students.
Behind-the-scenes
The challenges included working with a remote, 8-member team. We divided each section to sub-groups, and compiled all our research into a shared document.
My teammates did a great job with detailed findings, theme selection, coordination and content creation. My primary role was to assist and compress the research into an academic presentation, while providing research assistance where content is necessary.
We produced all supporting and required documents after the prototype was complete. The research was conducted throughout the term, but the presentation was completed within a week.
Results
I was able revisit and deepen my knowledge in digital marketing, building on 3 years of prior experience. I was able to effectively apply this expertise to a large-scale company project, bridging strategy and execution. Through this process, I strengthened my understanding of cross-channel campaigns, audience targeting, and performance analysis in a high-impact, fast-paced environment.

- Gained hands-on experience working on larger audiences, budgets, and performance benchmarks
- Improved ability to align marketing goals with broader business objectives
