About the Project
Music Revolution is a 1-4 player board game where players answer trivia questions and complete challenges to move forward in order to reach the end and collect the Record of the Year. Click here to get a printable version of the game.
The goal of the project was to immerse players in an interactive and enjoyable experience. Our group chose a music themed game that teaches musical facts about the modern Electronic, Hip hop, Pop and Worldwide genres, all while allowing them to foster their creativity through performing music challenges (dancing and singing).
It is an academic project for the Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI) program at the University of Waterloo Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, owned and designed by a team of graduate students. The core requirement was to design a board game.

Behind-the-scenes
The challenges included working with a remote team, a close deadline, a requirement to provide both an online and a printable version, and designing a fun, engaging game.
My teammates did a great job with research, theme selection, coordination, content creation, trivia collection, and more. My role was to apply them to Axure.
I went with Axure because I find it more powerful with conditionals rather than Figma or Sketch. Even the loading screen you’ll see when you draw a body or sound card is just a GIF that has if-then conditions applied to it, and didn’t require actual code. Most icons were licensed for free from Google’s Material Icons, and GIFs from Tenor, but view our citations for a complete list.
The design was also large enough that it could occupy a normal A4. We produced all supporting and required documents after the prototype was complete. We completed all these in a month.

Results
I relearned how to work with new people, and I was able to contribute and push my skills even further with Axure. We got great feedback from our colleagues and professor, and we got an A+.
