Background
Prints is a social media travel app designed to create profiles for any type of traveler and to streamline documenting travel memories and planned trips through the collection of flags, photos, dates, locations, basic trip details, and necessary travel documents in an organized manner. It aims to solve how people are falling short on recalling and appreciating travelling due to lack of records, reminders, or even photo albums.
The app’s target users are vacationers, tourists, business travelers, backpackers, documentarists, travel journalists, resort, hotel or restaurant hoppers, travel or landscape photographers or travel influencers.
This was a project for the Interactive Media Management postgraduate program at Centennial College, Toronto. We were tasked to research, ideate, design, and plan a product.
Behind-the-scenes
It took a total of 3 months to conceptualize and design Prints. I was assisted by one colleague, Taciana Vieira Kolisch, all throughout the process (visit her portfolio at tacikolisch.com). It was also overlooked by two dedicated mentors who specialized in (1) International Development and Marketing and (2) Travel and Photography.
Problem
Canadians make 4.2 trips (outbound and domestic) per year, on average (1World Atlas); and Expedia Media Solutions said that an average person travels the most between the ages of 21 to 37 years old (15 years), so that’s an estimate of at least 63 trips per Canadian lifetime. But how many people can actually remember all their travels in one lifetime?
Solution
The app aims to solve how people are falling short on recalling and appreciating travelling due to lack of records, reminders, or even photo albums.
Results
We released and tested Prototype Version 1 with colleagues and random testers as the first draft prototype. Valid points were made during the testing phase and revisions were applied to Version 2. Version 2 was again tested; however, this time the prototype (Version 2) was tested with selected, target users instead of random. Click on the buttons below to see the first versions of Prints.
The final prototype is a compilation of all the research we gathered from existing studies, users, mentors, and colleagues. With the user journey as its core guide, we were able to create a high-fidelity prototype. I got an A.
